Frequently Asked Questions for Northern Orthopaedics

  • What if I am late?  If you are more than 15 minutes late you may be asked to reschedule your appointment.
  • Do you take my insurance?  We participate with most insurance companies including BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Medcost, WellPath, Medicare, NC Medicaid, VA Medicaid and the following VA Medicaid HMO plans:  Majesticare, Anthem Health Keepers, VA Premier and VA Medallion.  
  • I have Carolina Access Medicaid; can I schedule my own appointment?  No, your appointment will need to be scheduled by the primary care doctor listed on your insurance card.  Appointments for patients who have Virginia Medicaid Medallion or a Virginia Medicaid product must also be scheduled by the patient's primary care provider.
  • Is payment expected at time of service?  Yes, if you have insurance, you are required to pay your co-pay at the time of the visit.  If you have a deductible and co-insurance you will be required to pay that based on your visit and the type of service you receive.  
  • What if I don’t have insurance?  Our practice has a self-pay policy where we require $300 for the first visit.  It may be more or less depending on the services you receive.  If you pay your balance in full at each visit you will receive a 35% discount on your balance or if you pay your total balance in full within 30 days of your visit.
  • Do we see patients for back pain?  Yes, our policy states if you are experiencing any of the following; back pain, groin pain, radiating pain down the legs, pain in the buttocks, neck pain, etc. you will need to first see your primary care doctor and have those records sent to our practice for review. 
  • Do you charge to have forms completed?  Yes, for all disability and FMLA forms, there is a $20 charge that is due when the forms are picked up.
  • Are we taking new patients?  Yes
