| Northern Hospital Awards Scholarships to High School Seniors for 2010 |

| Northern Hospital of Surry County recently awarded scholarships valued at $8,500 to area high school seniors. This annual merit scholarship program recognizes outstanding students that will be furthering their education at many of the area’s fine colleges and universities. “We are proud of the scholarship winners,” says Jeannie Jones Moore, Senior Director of Human Resources for Northern Hospital of Surry County. “Our scholarship program is one that we look forward to every year because it demonstrates our commitment to the students in our community. We’re pleased to see these young peoples’ interest in medicine, nursing and other fields of endeavor.” The NHSC General Scholarship worth $500 was awarded to Katelyn Houston of Dobson. She is the daughter of Debbie and Lynn Houston. She currently attends North Surry High School and plans to attend Appalachian State University. The first of two NHSC scholarships for a child of a hospital employee valued at $500 and renewable for three additional years for a total potential value of $2,000 was awarded to Kevin Bunn of Draper, Virginia. He is the son Ellen Dalton-Bunn, and attends Pulaski High School. He plans to continue his education at Virginia Tech majoring in Engineering. The second scholarship awarded to a child of an employee of NHSC was given to Tiffany Casstevens of Mount Airy. She is the daughter of Greg and Lisa Casstevens and attends North Surry High School. She plans to continue her education at Surry Community College majoring in Nursing and going on for her Bachelor’s in the field. The NHSC Nancy Moncus Memorial Scholarship, which is valued at $500 and renewable for three additional years for a total potential value of $2,000, was awarded to Ashley Jones of Mount Airy. She is the daughter of Karen and Dean Jones and attends Surry Early College High School of Design. She plans to continue her education at Davidson College majoring in Biology. The NHSC Martha Wilkins Memorial Scholarship valued at $500 and renewable for three additional years for a total potential value of $2,000 was awarded to Lyndsey Henderson of Dobson. She is the daughter of Donald and Deanna Henderson and attends Surry Central High School. She plans to continue her education at UNC Asheville majoring in History Education.
