| Donna Barker Named ED Nurse of the Year |

| The Emergency Department of Northern Hospital of Surry County recently awarded its Emergency Department Nurse of the Year Award to Donna Barker, RN during Emergency Nurses Week, October 11-17. To reflect the dedication of emergency nurses in the United States and around the world, this year’s theme was, “Emergency Nurses…Prepared for the Unexpected”.
Chosen from nominations made by her fellow Emergency Department (ED) staff members, Barker has been an ED nurse for 16 years. Her experience includes 8 years with Air Care as a nurse and supervisor. She is a Certified Emergency Nurse and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider. She is certified in Pediatric Emergency Nursing, Core Trauma Nurse, Neonatal Advanced Life Support, Advanced Burn Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Donna has two children, Taylor and Lauren, and is the daughter of Dan and Shirley Sheets. She attends Welcome Baptist Church and is a volunteer at Westfield Elementary School.
