Northern Hospital Receives Award for Reducing Medical Waste 10/23/2009
In recognition of its continuing effort to reduce bio-hazardous waste materials, Northern Hospital of Surry County has been honored with the EcoSense Award from SRI Surgical. The award recognizes healthcare systems that have shown a commitment to bio-hazardous waste reduction and related costs. Northern Hospital was honored because they eliminated over 125,500 pounds of bio-hazardous medical waste between 2002 and 2008. SRI Surgical developed the EcoSense Award in keeping with their dedication to providing reusable surgical products delivered through an efficient, cost-effective program that eliminates the use and subsequent disposal of millions of pounds of medical waste that would severely impact the environment.

The award was presented to Brian Beasley, Director of Surgical Services, and his staff on Thursday, October 22.
