| Hospital to Raise Awareness During Infection Prevention Week |
10/18/2009 |
| To raise awareness about the critical need to protect patients and the public from the risk of healthcare-associated infections, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) is recognizing International Infection Prevention Week, October 18-24, 2009. The theme this year is “Infection Prevention is Everyone’s Business.”
We at Northern Hospital of Surry County take infection prevention very seriously and truly believe that everyone plays an important role in the prevention of infections. From the time a patient enters the hospital until they are discharged, all staff –doctors, nurses, housekeepers, dietary staff, imaging and laboratory staff, are concerned about preventing the transmission of infection.
Hospital staff is trained to deal with patients who have infections, but they are also trained on how to prevent infections. They are actively involved in many prevention activities. In the past few weeks, employees have received seasonal flu vaccines, and will be receiving the H1N1 vaccines in the near future.
Because infection prevention is everyone’s business, visitation by those under 18 years of age has been restricted to minimize the potential for exposure to the flu and transmission of the flu.
