Wound Care Center Celebrates 2nd Anniversary

On Tuesday, February 8, 2011, The Wound Care Center at Northern Hospital celebrated its two-year anniversary with an open house. The state-of-the-art outpatient center is located at 314 S. South Street, South Street Medical Park, Suite 200 in Mount Airy.

The Center offers advanced technologies, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and proven clinical practice guidelines in the treatment of chronic, non-healing wounds. Nationally, approximately 7 million people suffer from wounds that will not heal; a serious problem that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impaired quality of life if not treated with the advanced wound healing therapies available in centers like Northern Hospital’s. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and in people with diabetes—populations that are sharply rising as the nation ages and chronic diseases increase. The Center is currently staffed with four physicians working four to eight hour shifts in addition to their regular practices.
