Hospital Awards Scholarships to High School Seniors

      Northern Hospital of Surry County recently awarded scholarships valued at $8,500 to area high school seniors. This annual merit scholarship program recognizes outstanding students that will be furthering their education at many of the area’s fine colleges and universities.

      “We are proud of the scholarship winners,” says Jeannie Jones Moore, Senior Director of Human Resources for Northern Hospital of Surry County. “Our scholarship program is one that we look forward to every year because it demonstrates our commitment to the students in our community. We’re pleased to see these young peoples’ interest in medicine, nursing and other fields of endeavor.”
The NHSC General Scholarship worth $500 was awarded to Celeste Sciabarasi of Elkin. She is the daughter of Lisa Arney. Celeste currently attends Elkin High School and plans to attend NC State University to study Human Biology (Pre-Med).
      Thefirst of two NHSC scholarships for a child of a hospital employee valued at $500 and renewable for three additional years for a total potential value of $2,000 was awarded to
Shelley McCluskey of Mount Airy. She is the daughter of Catherine & Thomas McCluskey, and attends Mount Airy High School. She plans to continue her education at Appalachian State University in the Music Therapy Program.
      The second scholarship awarded to a child of an employee of NHSC was given Kayla Lewis of Mount Airy. She is the daughter of Stacey W Lewis and attends East Surry High School. She plans to continue her education at Forsyth Technical College majoring in Medical Sonography. 
      The NHSC Nancy Moncus Memorial Scholarship, which is valued at $500 and renewable for three additional years for a total potential value of $2,000, was awarded to Savannah-Lee Mumford of Mount Airy. She is the daughter of Jessica Mumford and attends University of NC School of the Arts High School. She plans to continue her education at UNC School of the Arts majoring in Acting.
      The NHSC Martha Wilkins Memorial Scholarship valued at $500 and renewable for three additional years for a total potential value of $2,000 was awarded to Amber Swaim of Dobson. She is the daughter of Tina and Nate Swaim and attends Surry Central High School. She plans to continue her education at Surry Community College to become a Paramedic and continue on into Nursing.
